“PETERSON” Original Sole Leather Low-top Sneaker

The “Original Sole Sneaker” has been gaining popularity for its one-of-a-kind sole, which is molded out of clay by the designer himself, Mihara.

Among the original sole sneakers, the “PETERSON” model, which has been a representative model since the first season, is finally available in all leather.

It will go on sale from Saturday 17 April at the official online store and Maison MIHARA YASUHIRO stores.

The “PETERSON” model to be released this time has been available in a wide range of styles, from the standard type such as plain canvas to the design type that changes each collection, but what has been hard to find is the all-leather version.

On the official online store, they are only available in one color, black/black.

The upper and the sole are all in black, making this a modest pair.

Compared to canvas, this item is less casual and cooler, and can be worn with casual adult coordinates, beautiful jackets, and suits styles.

As the weather gets warmer and the sun’s rays become more and more pleasant, there are times we feel like wearing some white color.

In addition to black/black, white and black will also be available at Maison MIHARA YASUHIRO stores so be sure to check it out.

Don’t miss out on this new version of a popular model.

“RESIZE” Designs

The spring cherry blossom season has arrived, and the clothes we wear have become much lighter.

This time, we have picked up the “RESIZE” design items from the 2021 Spring/Summer Women’s Collection.

We introduce them with style suggestions.

Resize design is a design technique that has been updated in the past few seasons, and it highlights women’s unique silhouettes around the waist and shoulders.

This shirt is a big size shirt tucked and resized.

By resizing the shirt from the shoulders, the sleeves come out a little in the front, creating a unique silhouette.

The front of the dress is also boldly tucked from the top, creating an overlapping hem design.

Resize Shirt

Denim is the best bottom to wear with shirts.

These denim pants have a catchy design that looks like another pair of torn pants layered on top of the pants.

The silhouette, while wide, keeps a high waist and can be styled up.

When you walk, the movement of the hem of the left leg, which looks like two overlapping pieces, gives it an eye-catching looks.

Layer Cut Off Denim Pants

This is a shirt dress with tucks around the front and back waists.

Although it is different from the so-called “resizing technique,” the large tucks create a feminine silhouette with a lot of body.

The pleated skirt is docked at the waist.

The waist belt of the pleated skirt can be tied in the back or hung in the front.

Pleats Skirt Docking Shirt Dress

Denim is a good choice to go with a long length shirt, but if you want a more relaxed look, go for pants made of a material that is flattering and has a comfortable fall.

These pants are finished with a unique texture through a special spraying process.

Over Sprayed Pants

Cotton knitwear is a must-have for spring and summer.

The advantage of cotton knitwear is smooth and breathable even though it is knit, unlike  winter materials such as wool or cashmere.

Of course, it can be used in the fall and winter as well, so it is actually an excellent item that can be worn all year round.

This item has been resized so that the shoulders and front are pinched.

Like the shirt, the sleeves are designed to come forward a little, and the side silhouette is unique.

Resize Cardigan

What we need with the cardigan is a long skirt that will make you look even more feminine.

The shirt material of this light skirt makes it easy to wear even though it is long, and the docking design gives it a bit of an edge.

Shirt Docking Skirt

And after all, fashion starts with your feet.

This is a notable item from the women’s collection that is not in the men’s collection.

Don’t forget to wear these sandals with a billiard ball as a heel to show off your stylishness from the hem of your pants or skirt !

How Do People Wear “in・stru(men-tal). ” ?

Designer Yasuhiro Mihara’s new line, 『in・stru(men-tal). 』

If 『Maison MIHARA YASUHIRO』, a collection line, 『in・stru(men-tal). 』is a song without lyrics.

The name of the brand, “instrumental,” is an English word that refers to a song played only with musical instruments without any human voice, or in other words, a song played only with musical instruments without any singing.

The new line, which finally went on sale on Saturday,20th March, expresses a different worldview from that of 『Maison MIHARA YASUHIRO』.

You must be wondered how people on the street would wear these stress-free items, which are designed to be trimmed down and pursued in terms of fabric, silhouette, and comfort.

Let’s take a peek at how they wear them.

in・stru(men-tal). To Release Its First Collection

Yasuhiro Mihara, a designer, has proposed a new line called “in・stru(men-tal).”.

It will finally go on sale from Saturday 20th March at the official online store and Maison MIHARA YASUHIRO stores.

The name of the brand, “instrumental,” is an English word that refers to a song played only with musical instruments, without any human voice, or in other words, a song played only with musical instruments without singing.

If the collection line 『Maison MIHARA YASUHIRO』 is a song with lyrics, 『in・stru(men-tal). 』

is a song without lyrics.

The newly launched line is a stress-free capsule collection that strips away design and pursues fabrics, silhouettes, and comfort.

The first collection will feature seven models in five colors.

T-Shirts and Long Sleeves T-Shirts are made using a densely packed knitting method, which gives the fabric a bouncy texture.

The shirt is made of high quality Supima cotton, which is light and comfortable to wear, but has a distinctive volume at the back.

The hoodie is made of a thick fleece lining that provides moderate warmth and high water absorbency, yet is not stuffy. It has an oversized silhouette and long sleeves.

The pants are made of high-twist, dry-touch cotton that does not easily lose its shape, and the waist is adjustable for a non-stress pant.

Of the five colors (white, black, navy, brown, and green), three colors (navy, brown, and green) are dyed after the product is finished, which enables a unique color expression.

In addition, the seams on the sides of the pants and the shoulders of the tops have been made seamless to maximize the comfort of the garment.

In addition to the clothes introduced here, caps and knit caps will also be released.

It’s March, spring is in full swing and it’s time to start wearing those spring clothes you bought earlier.

In this edition of our Spring/Summer 2021 Men’s Collection, we would like to introduce you to the “LAYERED” design.

It is a technique that has been applied to a variety of items over the past few seasons, and has become an iconic feature of the brand.

This season’s new collection includes shirts, hoodies and denim blousons.

This shirt is made up of three shirts.

A plain shirt, a zipped shirt and a striped shirt, all in different colours and patterns, to create a unique atmosphere.

The message “This is Tomorrow” is on the back.

Triple Layered Shirt

This is a check-on-check pattern shirt with a long shirt overlaid with a damaged shirt that looks as if it has been torn to pieces.

The shirt on top is boldly cut from the left chest and the sleeves are designed differently on each side.

The left sleeve has a torn cuff detail.

Broken Layer Long Shirt

The patterned shirt is also available in a half sleeve version.

This eye-catching shirt has a layered design emphasised by the different patterns.

Broken Layer Half Sleeve Shirt

Damaged finish throughout.

Broken Denim Layer Blouson

The half-sleeved sweatshirt is layered over the long sleeves of the shirt.

This hoodie has a pop look with the string as a measure and the message printed on it.

The back also features a bold print with the brand name.

WHO is Yasuhiro Mihara?

Yasuhiro Mihara.

The designer of『Maison MIHARA YASUHIRO』.

Yasuhiro Mihara was born in Nagasaki, Japan in June 1972.

What kind of person is Yasuhiro Mihara at the age of 48 ?

What are his creations?

In this first issue of the “WHO is Yasuhiro Mihara?” series, we’ll start by looking at what Mihara has told the media about the background of his shoe production.

〜 The Start of shoe making 〜

Mihara left his hometown in Nagasaki and started making shoes on his own while he was studying art at Tama Art University.

「I went to art college, but at the time there was a 15-30x ratio, and I had to waste two years to get in. I knew I had to figure out how to spend my four years as a wandering student and find a direction to make something as an artist. I know that there are lots of people who are better than me at painting, sculpture and architecture, but what you need to do in order to make a work of art is to have a philosophy of belief, as I’ve realized since I was a little kid. Otherwise, even if you’re good at it, your work will be flimsy and won’t convey anything. My mother used to paint in oils and I often had the opportunity to go to museums, but the curators would get very angry if I touched a painting or sculpture. A third party determines the value of something that the painter or artist likes to create, and a sense of separation and distance is created in order to preserve the value of that work of art. I felt that the conceptual value of a painting, such as the power and beauty of the painting, or the belief that it appeals to me, was not the true value of the painting, but rather the value of the painting as a material object, and I felt that if that happened, people and art would not be in harmony.」

「I thought for a really long time about how to reconcile people and art, and I didn’t end up being that passionate about painting, and it’s very difficult to do something that you can do without sleeping for a couple of days and something that you can have an overwhelming passion for that you can do sleep or wake up and do. The reason I got into shoes is because I had no idea how to make them. My generation had played with plastic models since we were young, so when we saw things, we had some idea of how to design them, but I didn’t know how the tips of the shoes came to be round or how the leather became shiny, and I didn’t even think that wooden molds existed at the end of the 20th century. I started making shoes when I was a sophomore in college, and it was very interesting to work on them without anyone telling me how to do it. As I learn from my mistakes, I make discoveries, and as I meet people and learn from them, the technology I thought I invented is something that people who make shoes take for granted. So I came to think that even if there was a fundamental way of making things, if we didn’t abandon it at some point, something new wouldn’t be born.」

From GRIND, published October 2019

Yasuhiro Mihara now participates in Paris Fashion Week and presents his clothing collection at runway shows every season, but at first he started out crating leather shoes.

Why did he start with leather shoes?

That’s because “I didn’t know how to make them at all” .

Why does the tip curl up and the leather become shiny ……..

Yasuhiro Mihara started making shoes in his own way without being taught by anyone, and went on to make many discoveries and creations.

However, in manufacturing, it is difficult to make a design without the basics of manufacturing.

As you might expect, it is an essential part of shoemaking.

Yasuhiro Mihara had a chance to meet a shoe master in Asakusa, Tokyo.

「”I think I turned it down once, or maybe twice.” He brought me a pair of shoes that looked like a drawstring, made without a wooden mold. I had no intention of teaching him at all, but at the time, Yasuhiro Mihara was working part-time at a nearby wholesale store, and he would come in once in the morning, clean up, go to school, and come back again, going back and forth between Tachikawa and Asakusa twice a day. As I watched him, I sensed his strong will and indomitable spirit. That’s when I started teaching him how to make wooden molds. I already knew he was going to do weird things, so I gave him a rule that you can’t mess with the wooden pattern from the instep. But one occasion he showed me a design which incorporated a “horn” on the toe, like a unicorn.” I said, “What are we going to do with this? I can’t make this,” After that, he made a bunch of things I’d never seen before, and I wasn’t sure what to do with them either, but in those cases, masculinity wins out. I told him clearly that I can’t do what I can’t do, but that I would make things that had potential, so he could bring in whatever he wanted. That was the beginning.

Visit Omotesando Hills Store in Tokyo ~ Let us introduce our store ~

We are all getting used to a new life style under COVID-19, taking precautionary measures and practicing social distancing when we spend time outside and shopping.

Of course, who doesn’t want to take a walk and go shopping when the sun is shining, even while the end of August heat continues?

So for the first time, we would like to introduce to you our store in Tokyo!

Let us introduce our flagship『Maison MIHARA YASUHIRO』Omotesando Hills store.

The store opened on 18 March 2016.

The inspiration for the interior comes from designer Mihara Yasuhiro’s memory of ateliers in the small towns of Italy and Germany he visited in years gone by.

The cashier space is inspired by a small store in Burlington Arcade in London.

There is also an atelier inside the store that handles made-to-order shoes and shoe repair.

This is a special store that provides shoe-making lessons held by our “shoe master” who has been supporting the brand since it was first launched, and also from the designer Mihara Yasuhiro himself.

It could be an unforgettable experience to have the chance to be taught by the designer Mihara Yasuhiro.

Lessons are currently not available due to COVID-19, but if you are interested, please contact the store.

At our flagship store, you can explore various lines such as our latest collection, iconic popular sneakers, “invisible” goods and even business shoes in a relaxing environment.

“INVISIBLE Leather Goods” MIHARA YASUHIRO’s Iconic Technique

『MIHARA YASUHIRO』’s special “invisible” technique.

We have released various “invisible” items such as leather goods such as wallets and shoes.

Those items have been loved by a lot of our customers since the brand was first launched.

Father’s Day is coming soon!

It comes every year and of course, you never forget to express your gratitude, but question is … what gift will you give your Father this year?

Here, we introduce our beautiful “invisible” items for your Father’s Day gift ideas.

By the way, do you know how these “invisible” items are made?

As the product name suggests, those items are made with the design something invisible.

The name of the technique in Japanese is “Aburidashi”. Some people may imagine it has something to do with the use of fire, however it refers to the technique used to make invisible ink that reveals what is written when heated.

The process requires delicate work by a sophisticated craftsman to make small parts such as a belt buckle appear “invisible” by inserting the part inside the leather.

Through this process, the shape of the part inserted, in this case the buckle, becomes embossed on the surface of the leather item.

There are two main approaches to tanning leather, either by a process known as “chrome tanning” or by “vegetable tanning”. We use the latter for our leather goods which is more time-consuming but produces a higher quality product.

The beauty of using vegetable tanning is that the more you use the product over time, the more you can enjoy the leather as it ages.

When the buckle inside of the leather appears after using it over many years, it will become your one and only original item, almost like an antique.

With the support of our shoe master who has been supporting us since the launch of the brand, we would like to show you a part of the manufacturing process for the shoelaces on one of our “invisible” leather shoes.

Unfortunately, this shoe is not available online, however there are a range of other dress shoes available.
